Outdoor living spaces, like kitchens and patios, continue to be a popular trend. Take a moment to read about some of the hardscaping materials available for classy and modern outdoor living!

Slate

Slate roofs are common in some areas of the country, but slate also works well as a hardscaping material. Slate usually comes in a gray, green or blue color, and it easily cracks into thin slabs of rock. Slate’s natural qualities make it a good choice for some outdoor applications. It is an excellent paving stone, and its natural water-resistance makes it a good hardscaping option for areas near water features or pools.

Limestone

Limestone is a great option for decorative hardscaping, as it stands up well to outside elements. This natural stone is made up of compressed rock, fossils and plants, along with mud and sand. Limestone comes in a range of colors from white to red and black, and works well as wall and flooring stones, for projects like patios or walking paths.

Fieldstone

Fieldstones are called such because these stones were typically found in fields or open spaces instead of being mined out of a quarry. These rounded stones come in a variety of colors and sizes, and can provide a more eclectic feel to a garden. Most often, they are used in hardscaping as wall stones, for use in free-standing walls or raised garden beds.

Granite

Granite has always been a popular stone for indoor kitchen and bathroom countertops. Now, it is being incorporated into outdoor kitchens as well. Granite is made up of large, coarse crystals of quartz, feldspars and mica. Its many minerals give it a speckled look ranging from an almost black to a cream. Since granite is very hard and non-porous, it can make for excellent counters and gorgeous accents in your hardscaping.

Your driveway doesn’t have to be a boring slab of asphalt – modern day driveways include colors, patterns, and landscaping building right in. Take a moment to read about some of the recent creative driveway design trends to gracing modern homes.

Permeable Pavers

Rain water taxes don’t appeal to anyone. One option to reduce your environmental impact and your tax bill is to use permeable pavers as part of your driveway. Permeable paving in a grid running in the same direction of your house can extend the architectural appearance of your home while allowing water to percolate down through the earth instead of running off site. You can even add a parking spot for your car by creating runners in the grass.

Pea Gravel

For a cozier, Old-World feel to your driveway design, consider doing a gravel driveway. Gravel driveways are easy on the budget and adding gravel periodically is quicker than sealing an asphalt driveway. Gravel driveways are also permeable, so no additional rain water taxes! However, gravel driveways can produce a lot of dust and weeds, so be ready to spray your driveway down with weed killer during the spring and summer.

Mixed Materials

Uninterrupted stretches of dull concrete can be a design bummer. Get creative with your driveway design by mixing materials – try adding a paver border, interior bands, or brick insets to add visual interest.

Landscaping

Incorporating your landscape into your driveway design. Low shrubs or small flowering plants are great for disguising and softening the edge of a driveway. Or add a raised border or flower bed to the edge of the driveway. Adding color and texture to your driveway design can provide a visual distraction from the utilitarian purpose of the hardscaping.

Stamped Asphalt

If you’re stuck with an asphalt driveway, consider getting it reshaped and resealed. Previously laid asphalt can be rewarmed and treated if it’s in good condition. An asphalt contractor can apply a pattern to warmed asphalt using large stamp templates. The surface can then be sprayed with a colored sealer to create beautiful brick or stone appearances.

All the moisture in the air is not doing your pavement any favors what so ever. In fact there are probably spots that are cracking or sinking, right? This can be exceptionally hazardous in areas with a lot of foot or car traffic. But what can you do? Do you really want to have the entire driveway, walkway, or paved area jack hammered and redone? This is a costly and long process, so it would be nice to avoid, right? Well, with a little slab jacking, you can get the repairs you need without an entire overhaul. Ready to learn more about this awesome process? Well here we go!

Repaving is a huge hassle.

Having a walkway or driveway repaved is nice to do, but it can be a long and difficult process. This is especially true if you have a concrete surface. Repaving is right for certain circumstances, there’s no doubt about that, but it isn’t always totally necessary. After all, what if only one little section of your driveway or walkway is sinking into the ground? Well, slab jacking is an affordable and practical repair service that we’re going to be talking a little bit more about.

Slab jacking is a big saver.

When concrete is placed over a flimsy dirt patch, it can sink into the ground after some heavy use. Now, this can cause major issues depending on where it is located. Thankfully, you can call in the slab jacking experts to get this repaired. Using a jackhammer, some special concrete mixtures, and a little cleverness your contractor can crack through the sinking layer and fill in the space beneath it. This will raise the slab back to where it needs to be. This process should only take a few hours to complete and can be done in most weather conditions.

Practical gifts for Mother’s Day are all the rage these days. Something that your mother can use and enjoy for years to come is going to be more valuable than a quick trinket grabbed in haste. When your mother looks out into her driveway, she’ll think of you and how your support keeps her going. Let’s check out some of your options and why having your mother’s driveway repaved is an excellent Mother’s Day gift.

Show your mother you care.

It seems like everyone takes their mother out for dinner on Mother’s Day. It’s the thing to do. Now, what if you could do something a little different? Different is good. It shows you have really thought about this. Now, you can grab her something small and silly just to make her laugh, but if you really want to show your mother how much you care, then having her driveway repaved is going to be the way to go. It will show her how you care about even the smaller details of her home life. A repaved driveway can be a lovely metaphor for how you have given your time, heart, and money to hold your mother up, just in the same way she did for you all the years of your life.

Protect her investment.

If your mother owns her own home then she has probably invested a lot of time, effort, and money into her property. She has taken care of it over the years, but the driveway may not be in the best shape. It’s an easy thing to forget about. That’s where you come in. You can restore the beauty of her pavement while she worries over some of the more fun aspects of home improvement. A gift should be something that provides the person with peace of mind. A new pavement will certainly do that.

Ready to get you mother’s driveway repaved for Mother’s Day?

If you’re not a mason or paving specialist yourself, that means hiring one. But how do you know when a paving or masonry company is good? The Tri-State Paving and Construction brings you a list of three things to look for in a paving and masonry company and lets you know how we meet all the criteria.

1. Experienced Craftsmen

The first of the three things to look for in a paving and masonry company are experienced craftsmen. Only with experienced craftsmen can you guarantee that your paving or masonry job is done right. At Tri-State Paving and Construction we have three generations of experience and hire only master stone masons and highly experienced crews to work at our company. We are experienced at the art of building with stone, Belgium block, brick, pavers, concrete, and asphalt. As an experienced team we have all our own equipment and can make a custom design to fit anything that you can dream. We craft driveways, patios, walkways, pool decks, curbing, walls, fireplaces, pillars, outdoor living spaces, and BBQ’s.

2. Professional Practices

After experienced craftsmen, the next of the three things to look for in a paving and masonry company are professional practices. Professional practices are important because they protect you the customers from being taken advantage of. You might hire a renowned masonry artist, but if you don’t get a real contract, you can’t expect real work. At Tri-State Paving and Construction we don’t give you the run around like an “artiste” might. We give you an immediate response with upfront pricing and keep you informed of project updates. Our uniformed and experienced crew stick with your project until it’s completed to your satisfaction and we guarantee our work twice as long as the competitors.

3. Personal Touch

The final of the three things to look for in a paving and masonry company is a personal touch. A personal touch in the paving and masonry company you hire is important for helping you design your project, meeting your expectations, and ensuring you’re satisfied with the company’s service. Tri-State Paving and Construction prides itself in being a family owned and operated business. We treat your project like it’s our own and are reachable 7 days a week and we work with you to make sure the project is as stress free as possible.
